Glossop SNT - School Engagement
This afternoon, Wednesday 20th May, PCSO Buller from Glossop YET (Youth Engagement Team) alongside his colleague PCSO Martin ( from Gamesley SNT) completed a classroom input on ASB and Crime (Good Choices or Bad Choices) with the Yr 6 Students (Ages 10 to 11) from St Charles' Catholic Voluntary Academy, Hadfield.
The input was completed as below and encouraged the students to understand Good Choices or Bad Choices - Their Choice! :- ▪️Why do we need Laws? ▪️The age of Criminal Responsibility (which is 10). ▪️What is a Crime? ▪️What is Anti-Social behaviour (ASB)? ▪️Examples of ASB which can aslo be crimes and the motives/excuses! ▪️The Victim! ▪️Types of Crimes? ▪️The impact on the community and consequences if found guilty of an offence!. ▪️How to report Crime and ASB? - Who to tell? - How to use Fearless.org !
Glossop YET also completed our bespoke Input called ‘Shattered’ - Knives Shatter Lives on Knife Crime Awareness - repeating how to tell us and give information about someone who carries or stores a knife? With an impactive video on ‘There is no safe place to stab’.
The visit today gave the team another perfect opportunity to make the young people aware of 🔪Operation Sceptre🔪- This is coordinated by the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) - This operation is the dedicated bi-annual national weeklong initiative to tackle knife and knife-enabled crime in our communities.
🔪 Operation Sceptre🔪 has the following core objectives :-
➡️ Enforcement - The Police will conduct proactive patrols, weapons sweeps and targetted stop and search operations. ➡️ Amnesty Bins (the locations, dates and times will be advertised locally). Where the public can safely and anonymously dispose of knives without fear of prosecution. ➡️ Education and Prevention - Officers will visit schools and community groups to educate young people about the dangers and devastating life consequences of carrying a knife. ➡️ Retail compliance - Police will partner with local retailers to conduct test purchases and ensure compliance with laws preventing the sale of knives to minors.
Glossop YET would like to thank the headteacher and Mr Robinshaw the year 6 teacher for allowing time to complete the presentations today. More importantly a big thank you to all of the young people who listened and enaged well.
